As part of the process of getting GDPRA up and running, we needed to put insurance in place to cover liability for the association, its board of directors and officers. Our insurance is now in place with EPG who has a very unusual and special way of thanking their new clients for their business. EPG donates a wheelchair through the Free Wheelchair Mission for each new account that they write. So, by establishing our association and entering into this relationship with EPG somebody in a third world country is being gifted mobility perhaps for the first time in their life.

Hopefully, this is the first of many opportunities where we can make good things happen for the broader community and the world through our affiliation with the GDPRA.

We all try our best to serve our clients by providing them with the best long term care options we can possibly find for them. Nevertheless, there are occasions when it doesn’t always turn out for the best and something bad happens. When the situation does have a bad outcome the placement agency is increasingly among the parties named in the litigation. This can be the case even though the placement agent may have done nothing wrong and events were completely out of their hands.

The fact of the matter is that placement agencies are often among the companies to be named in lawsuits when a wrongful death occurs in a facility. Settlements typically average between $400,000 to $1 million. Broad discovery laws make these lawsuits massively expensive to defend. The attorneys know that it’s less expensive to settle rather than to fight and spending years in court. Now more than ever it is so important to have the right type of insurance policy designed for senior placement and senior referral agents.

Finding the right kind of insurance for our industry can be difficult and expensive, but there are options available. The insurance company for NPRA as well as our local chapter, EPG Insurance, provide very cost-effective coverage for senior placement and referral agencies that is going to be hard to beat anywhere else.

Pricing starts as low as $1,300/year and coverage includes:

  • $1,000,000 per incident
  • $3,000,000 aggregate for general liability and professional liability
  • Optional $1,000,000 for hired/non-owned auto coverage
  • Optional $100,000 for abuse & molestation
  • Optional $250,000 for cyber liability

One of our primary objectives as an association is to make our members aware of what is happening in our industry both the good and the bad. We believe that the threat of litigation when a bad event occurs is a real and growing concern that we should all seriously consider protecting against.
